Wayfinder: Feature Development, Accessibility & Quality

Wayfinder is OneBusAway's next-generation transit web app, already live for real riders in San Diego. This project closes the gap between where it is now and where it needs to be for agencies to ship it with confidence. The work is organized into three areas. Feature development covers favorites/bookmarks for stops and routes, smarter service alerts with route and stop filtering, live arrival updates with Page Visibility API-aware polling, view departures beyond the default time range, and shareable stop and trip URLs. Accessibility covers a full WCAG 2.2 audit during community bonding followed by implementing the top findings, including aria-live regions for dynamic content, keyboard access for the route schedule grid, and focus management fixes in modals. Code quality covers migrating from Tailwind v3 to v4, migrating Flowbite and FontAwesome components to shadcn-svelte and Lucide icons, and expanding Vitest test coverage across all new and touched code paths. By the end of GSoC, Wayfinder will have the features riders expect, meet accessibility requirements agencies need for legal compliance, and have a cleaner codebase that makes every future contribution faster.
